Quartzite
Quartzite is a natural metamorphic rock primarily composed of natural quartz. Quartzite is known for its durability, hardness and resistance to scratching. Quartzite should not etch from normal kitchen acids like lemon juice. If your countertop does etch, it has been mislabeled and is most likely a marble or dolomitic marble. Quartzite porosity will vary based on the specific color that you have chosen. Some quartzites will need to be sealed more often than others. An indication that your countertops may need additional sealing would be if you have noticed darkening around your sink areas from water. Before sealing or re-sealing your quartzite countertops, be sure to clean the stone and let them completely dry before applying the sealer.
DO: Treat your quartzite with care, clean with a soft cloth or sponge, clean any spills immediately, and be sure to avoid excessive concentration of cleaners or soap as they may leave a film on your countertops or cause streaks.
DON’T: Do not clean quartzite with ammonia, vinegar, or any cleaning agents purchased at your local store. Use warm water and a mild soap or a specific natural stone cleaner. Do not stand on, set tools or heavy equipment on, use arts and crafts, etc. Things to avoid: Acidic foods and drinks, red wine, coffee, lemon/lime juice, tomato sauce, abrasive cleaners or sponges, heat, cutting directly on the stone, standing, etc.
